Designers have it covered with fab faux fur. For real.

For proponents of faux fur, this season is a candy land. Fashion designers now understand there are real markets for faux fur. And whether these consumers arrive at faux fur from a fashion sense, an ecological concern or a commitment to animal rights, designers are providing plenty of inventive, high-quality faux fun.

“My job is looking for real fur that is labeled as faux fur,” says Pierre Grzybowski, research and enforcement manager for the Fur-Free Campaign of the Humane Society of the United States. “And today, it’s sometimes hard for even me to tell up-close what is real and what isn’t. That’s how amazingly good some of the newer fabrics for faux fur are now.”

Here’s a peek at some playful takes on the fur coat without, well, the fur.
