Stephen Colbert teases Malcolm Gladwell about his hair [video]

If you weren’t watching the Colbert Report on Tuesday night, you missed Stephen Colbert poking fun at author Malcolm Gladwell’s shock of curly hair. Gladwell, for his part, looked kind of uncomfortable, and didn’t even try to make a hair joke in return.

The occasion was “The Big New Yorker Book of Dogs,” to which Gladwell wrote the foreword. Gladwell doesn’t have a dog, but he likes them, and he’s a New Yorker writer -- so there he was, shifting uneasily in the Colbert hot seat.

Funny, though, another New Yorker not only likes dogs but has written an entire book about one: Susan Orlean. Her work is included in “The Big New Yorker Book of Dogs,” which has stories, cartoons, art and drafts. Orlean’s piece in the book is from her dog book, “Rin Tin Tin: The Life and Legend.” And she looks like she’s enjoying herself when she’s on Colbert.

Gladwell does seem to relax when he gets to talk about his writing about dogs -- one dog in particular. It’s in the clip above.
