J.K. Rowling’s one-time Scotland home for sale for $3.7 million

A house where J.K. Rowling once lived is for sale in Edinburgh, Scotland. The $3.7 million Victorian has a number of upgrades, eight bedrooms and a walled garden.

Perhaps a touch of Harry Potter remains there, too.

The Rettie & Co. real estate listing does not note that the famous author once lived in the home. That news came via the Associated Press, which reports, “Rowling lived there with her husband and three children while she wrote several volumes in her seven-book adventure series about the boy wizard.”

Next week, Rowling’s first book for adults, “The Casual Vacancy,” will be published. “This book isn’t ‘Harry Potter,’” Michael Pietsch, who heads up publisher Little, Brown, told USA Today. “It is a completely different concern.”

Rowling will be making just one appearance in America to talk about “The Casual Vacancy.” Fans snapped up tickets to the Oct. 16 event at Lincoln Center in New York. In fact, enthusiasm was so high that someone hacked the system to buy tickets a day early.

That is fandom. No wonder Rowling’s garden had a wall.

The $3.7 million home is described as “redesigned and extended utilising the very best in modern fixtures and fittings to complement retained Victorian period features and now provides incredibly bright, beautifully proportioned and flexible accommodation over two floors while also incorporating a detached split level office with kitchen and shower room (offering potential use as additional accommodation), summerhouse, various outhouses and a double garage accessed from the cobbled lane to the rear.”

Rowling has moved on; she owns other properties and now writes elsewhere.
