The all-white French-originated flash-mob/pop-up Diner en Blanc comes to Los Angeles in August, when more than 1,000 guests will attend the picnic dinner at a to-be-announced secret location. Launched in Paris in 1988, the event celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and now takes place in cities all over the world.

The Los Angeles Diner en Blanc is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 21, rain or shine. Attendees are asked to wear head-to-toe white and bring their own gourmet picnic, drinks, tables (and white tablecloth), chairs and dinnerware. Mingling and dining with strangers is encouraged. There will also be live music and dancing.

The location for Diner en Blanc will be at a public site in Los Angeles “in one the of the most beautiful parts of the city,” organizers say. The exact location is revealed just before the event starts, but guests will receive instructions to meet around the city to take transportation to the venue.
