Fishing With Dynamite, from M.B. Post’s LeFevre, to open April 30

Fishing With Dynamite, the seafood-shack-inspired spot from chef David LeFevre, is expected to open Tuesday, April 30, in Manhattan Beach. It’s a 36-seat restaurant two doors down from LeFevre’s M.B. Post on Manhattan Avenue.

The 1,100-square-foot restaurant includes a six-seat raw bar and tiny cocktail bar with a menu and decor that mix the beach vibes of both East and West coasts. There’s white wood paneling, striped tiles, Eames chairs and antique Japanese buoys hanging from the ceiling.

From the raw bar: Dungeness crab, cherry stone clams and California sea urchin as well as plateaux de fruits de mer in three sizes (the SS Minnow, the Queen Mary and the Mother Shucker). The menu is divided into New School, Old School, No School and After School sections.

From the New School category of not-so-typical seafood dishes: Thai shellfish and coconut soup with rice noodles; grilled octopus with tomato-harissa-date chutney, white beans and preserved lemon; and miso Alaskan black cod with gingered eggplant and Thai basil.

Old School classics (with a twist) include buttermilk-marinated crispy sword squid with lemon and spiced tomato; New England-style clam chowder with bacon; and Maryland-style blue crab cakes with housemade pickles and whole grain remoulade.

Non-seafood dishes are categorized under No School, such as roast chicken with yuzu koshu and Romano beans and flat iron steak and crispy pork belly. Find desserts under After School.
