Gluten-free L.A., what and from where are you ordering for take out?

GrubHub, an online and mobile meal-ordering service, recently took a look at gluten-free dining. I was shocked to see that Los Angeles came up at only No. 9 on its list of cities with the most orders sans gluten.

What other cities might be more concerned with diet, and more ready to follow the latest trend, than L.A.? Maybe it’s that L.A. diners have already moved on to something newer?

But GrubHub’s research found that gluten-free takeout orders in L.A. grew 42% from April 2012 to April of this year. Women are almost 50% more likely to order gluten-free than men.

Here’s the list of L.A.’s most-ordered-from restaurants offering gluten-free dishes, according to GrubHub: Gangadin Indian Restaurant, Studio City; Cruzer Pizza, Los Feliz; Lenny’s Deli, West L.A.; Noodle Star, Sherman Oaks; Amante Pizza & Pasta, downtown; Evo Kitchen, Hollywood Hills West; Z Pizza, West Hollywood; 161 Street Pizza, Hollywood Hills; Wildflour Pizza, Santa Monica; and Marcelino’s Italian Kitchen, Sherman Oaks.

The list is pretty heavy on just the foods that people who avoid gluten often have to do without: pizza and pasta. Indian food is naturally not a gluten-heavy cuisine.
