Blinis, cured herring and Russian dumplings at Mari Vanna coming to West Hollywood

Share

Mari Vanna, the Eastern European restaurant with locations in New York, Washington, and a flagship in St. Petersburg, is slated to open in Los Angeles in late June.

The restaurant has taken over the space formerly occupied by Bastide, a once lavish French restaurant on Melrose Place and La Cienega Boulevard that closed in 2011.

The menu will have traditional Russian fare, with blinis, house-cured herring and pelmeni (handmade Russian dumplings) as well as beef stroganoff, chicken kotletki and vegetarian golubtsi (stuffed cabbage).

Certain items will be exclusive to the L.A. location, including a dragon fruit carpaccio with seafood salad and filet mignonette steak with watermelon.

The decor will mimic that of its East Coast predecessors, with a potted plant- and flower-covered facade. The 30-seat dining room is meant to look like an Old World parlor with chandeliers, stuffed armchairs, antique rugs, wallpaper and cupboards filled with Faberge eggs. Outside, the garden patio, shaded by willow trees, is a tribute to the new West Coast location.

There is also a bar area, 20-seat wine and karaoke lounge and a sun room. In the lounge, guests will be able to order a selection of house-infused vodkas and listen to serenades by a full-time entertainer. An accordionist will also play for diners.

Mari Vanna is run by Ginza Project, a Russian hospitality group.
