Comfort food at Cooks: Cooks County on Beverly Boulevard is offering a "home-cooked" meal every Monday night throughout the winter. Tonight’s menu features comfort foods such as cheese straws, spaghetti with meatballs and for dessert, Neapolitan ice cream. On Jan. 21 expect chili, cornbread and buttermilk pie; and on Jan. 28, Cooks County will be serving up deviled eggs, fried chicken and tapioca pudding. Dinner is $25 per person. Beer dinner at Hudson House: On Jan. 21, Hudson House in Redondo Beach will be teaming up with Orange County’s The Bruery for a five-course, beer-paired tasting menu. Hudson House owners Brooke Williamson, a contestant on this season’s Top Chef 10, and partner Nick Roberts will prepare a menu consisting dishes such as pickled and roasted vegetables, rock shrimp dumplings and clams served with sunchoke, carrot and coriander-popcorn broth; braised lamb with cassoulet; and a white miso and dark chocolate soufflé cake with red beet tapioca and a burnt caramel meringue. Dishes will be paired with Bruery brews including Salt of the Earth, a German-style wheat beer brewed with truffle salt and coriander, Smoking Wood, an imperial smoked rye porter with flavors of caramel and vanilla, and more. Kali Dining pops up downtown: Kevin Meehan’s dinner project, Kali Dining, will continue its run with a Thursday-to-Sunday dinner series Jan. 24 through Feb. 10. The chef will get creative in the kitchen while guests mingle in the intimate setting of a loft overlooking Pershing Square in downtown L.A. The five-course menu is a $65 minimum donation per person. ‘Save the Waves’ fundraiser: Simmzy’s Belmont Shore in Long Beach is hosting a multi-course dinner benefiting the Surfrider Foundation on Jan. 30. The event will feature guest chefs David LeFevre and Ray Hayashi of M.B. Post, Arthur Gonzalez of Roe and Chris Krajacic of Pier 76 Fish Grill, among others, in addition to Simmzy’s own Anne Conness and Justin Lewis. Dishes, which include smoked trout with preserved kumquats, grilled Maine lobster salad, spicy sesame short ribs and seared scallops, will be paired with local brews from Smog City, El Segundo Brewing, Monkish, Strand and Golden Road Brewing.
