Can home decor lift your spirits? A new show at the Mingei International Museum in San Diego's Balboa Park answers with an emphatic "yes" in "Masters of California Mid-Century California Modernism: Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman," opening March 29. The exhibit showcases the work of a Culver City couple whose optimistic ceramics, wood carvings and textiles helped to buoy midcentury design. Case in point: Striped Candy Tree, a woven wool wall hanging designed by Evelyn Ackerman and produced in 1968. For a sneak peek of the Mingei show, keep clicking.
