A $15,000 radio? It didn't happen. In
Bonhams & Butterfields' Los Angeles auction
of 20th century decorative arts on Sept. 22, one piece expected to fetch some of the highest bids was this Fada 189 All American Radio from the early 1940s. The marbleized blue and white casing is believed to be extremely rare, and the 6-inch-tall model still has its original label on the bottom. Its pre-auction estimate was $10,000 to $15,000; by the close of the auction, it remained unsold.
