Dream Street’s Jesse McCartney seeks more square feet
With a Grammy-nominated song, three TV series and multiple albums, it would seem that Jesse McCartney has been living on Dream Street, the name of the boy band that launched him to stardom in the early 2000s. But the singer-songwriter-actor actually resides at a Hollywood Hills home he recently listed at $1,199,000.
The updated modern house, built in 1965, has two bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms in 1,600 square feet. Outside, there’s a spa with a waterfall, a fire pit and a seating area with canyon views.
McCartney, 22, said he enjoys spending time with family and friends and has used the backyard of the open-plan house for entertaining. “I love to cook,” he said, “and this kitchen allows me to cook and still hang out with my friends.”
The second-time home buyer spent more than $200,000 on upgrades, including improvements to the grounds, sound systems and spa area. He bought the property in 2007 for $1,076,000.
McCartney earned a 2009 record of the year Grammy nomination for “Bleeding Love,” which he co-wrote and produced with Ryan Tedder for British singer Leona Lewis. His early acting work included a role on the ABC soap opera “All My Children” from 1998 to ’99. He was a regular on “Summerland” (2004-05), and this year he has appeared in five episodes of the ABC Family series “Greek.”
As for his musical career, McCartney embarked on a solo career after Dream Street and has released three studio albums.
He is selling because he’d like a larger home.

Actress Dana Davis has purchased a contemporary condominium in North Hollywood for $430,000.
The three-bedroom, 2 1/2 -bathroom unit has 1,509 square feet of living space. It’s in a new four-story building with 21 condos featuring city and mountain views, hardwood and tile flooring and kitchens with granite counters, stainless-steel appliances and breakfast bars.
Davis plays head cheerleader Chastity Church in the ABC Family series “10 Things I Hate About You” premiering Tuesday. She was in the second season of NBC’s “Heroes” (2007-08) and in the ABC series “The Nine” (2006-07).
The actress, in her mid-20s, is a violinist and a volunteer for Empowering Lives International, which works with underprivileged children in East Africa.
Drew Mandile and Brooke Knapp of Sotheby’s International Realty, Beverly Hills, represented Davis in her purchase.
On the street where he lived
The Palm Springs home where Oscar-winning composer Frederick Loewe wrote the music for “Camelot” is on the market at $5.95 million.
The one-story, ranch-style house, built in 1956, has four bedrooms and three bathrooms in 4,369 square feet. It sits on a street-to-street knoll made up of four parcels totaling nearly 3 acres in the Little Tuscany neighborhood. There are terraced gardens, a tennis court, a swimming pool with spa and a putting green.
“In short, there’s simply not a more congenial spot,” to borrow a phrase from the 1960 musical.
The home has glass walls, stone floors, a step-down living room and three fireplaces. The glass-enclosed dining room can seat 20. A large turntable in the master bedroom, from Loewe’s ownership, allows the bed and nightstand to be adjusted as the light changes to take in the views of the desert landscape or the cypress-lined gardens.
The composer, who died in 1988, paired with lyricist Alan J. Lerner on such hits as “Brigadoon,” “Paint Your Wagon,” “My Fair Lady” and “Gigi.” His desert property was reportedly frequented by stars including Greta Garbo, Red Skelton and Burgess Meredith.

Ballplayer has a deal brewin’
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has purchased a foreclosed home in Malibu for $4.85 million.
The five-bedroom, seven-bathroom gated Mediterranean has ocean views and sits on more than an acre with a swimming pool, spa and built-in barbecue. The interiors include three fireplaces and travertine and hardwood flooring. There is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom guesthouse and a movie theater for a total of 7,587 square feet of living area.
Since selling for $4.2 million in 2004, the property had been through a series of owners and transfers before ending up as bank-owned. It was listed at a high of $8.9 million in 2007 and had been marketed at $5,299,900 since the fall.
Braun, 25, started in the majors in 2007 with the Brewers and took the National League rookie of the year title and several other rookie awards. He grew up playing baseball in Granada Hills.

The house that denim bought
Update: “Gossip Girl” co-creator and producer Josh Schwartz and his wife, Jill, have sold their 1928 Los Feliz home for $2.15 million.
The house was purchased by Tim Kaeding, former creative director for the jeans and clothing company 7 for All Mankind, and his wife, writer and painter Heather Collins. Kaeding is currently starting a new jeans company, and Collins’ forthcoming debut novel is represented by Trident Media Group.
The gated Spanish-style house has five bedrooms and 5 1/2 bathrooms in 3,468 square feet. There is a hand-carved vaulted ceiling in the living room, a wine cellar in the library and a swimming pool with spa.
Schwartz, 32, purchased the property for $2 million in 2004. He has numerous executive producer and writing credits, including “Chuck” (2007-09), “Gossip Girl” (2007-09) and “The O.C.” (2003-07).
