Michael Smith 6
Just when Michael S. Smith Houses starts to feel a little tedious, like the cocktail party conversation from which you excuse yourself to refresh your drink, the book bounces back with profiles of compelling homes, most in Southern California. In true Hollywood fashion, names such as Cindy Crawford and James Burrows are dropped with precision. But what makes this final part of the book interesting is the extent to which Smith shows his range, proving that often the best designers are not those with a signature look but those who can interpret the desires of diverse clientele. Here, the Deco-flavored 1932 home of film producer Joe Roth.
