Creating a spa-like sanctuary at home doesn't mean you have to bring in a demolition crew to redo your bathroom. In these cost-conscious times, when a calming environment can be an affordable treat, there are new accessories that can add a Zen-like mood to an existing bathroom.

Japanese-style bath accessories offer peaceful updates to a bath. Floor grates 1 1/2 inches high are used in place of mats. Available in yellow cedar or hinok wood, from $20 to $30 per square foot.
