Andy Wolf’s sources and strategies

Some of Andy Wolf’s sources and strategies:

Shoji door: Because certain areas didn’t have much room for doors to swing out, Wolf used sliding panels hung on tracks. Because of the coastal climate, his oak-framed shoji-style door in the living room is finished with white polyurethane rather than rice paper or silk.

White: Instead of stainless steel appliances, Wolf bought new white-glass appliances from Jenn Air that better fit his lacquered Alno cabinetry.

Windows: Design codes limited how much exterior glass Wolf could use, so large expanses face the ocean but small portholes face neighbors. The portholes are fused blue and white glass that transmit light but are cloudy enough to preserve privacy.

Beachy tile: Italian glass tile from Nova Studio in West Hollywood appears in the master shower, on the outdoor shower and inside of a nearby porthole in the garden wall. The result: a consistent look that reads “beach” without feeling too literal.
