Coming soon to Beverly Hills: Marimekko

Share

Like a brightly colored antidepressant, Finnish textile and lifestyle brand Marimekko will open a store in Beverly Hills on Nov. 16, just in time for the holidays.

For more than 60 years, Marimekko has created irrepressibly happy and boldly graphic designs but with limited selection and availability in America.

The new 5,000-square-foot space is different from the store-within-a store concept at Crate & Barrel, offering more extensive home and apparel lines.

Decor will include pillows, bedding, dinnerware, glassware, towels and shower curtains. Tote bags and accessories such as the new Marimekko iPhone cases will be included. But the most exciting prospect for Marimekko devotees? Bolts and bolts of Marimekko’s signature Pop art textiles. We can only hope the yards of fabric tower up to the ceiling as they do in the New York flagship store, shown above.

“It’s going to be a new kind of place to meet,” said Mika Ihamuotila, President and CEO of Marimekko. “We are eager to come to Beverly Hills. It’s going to be a hub: a place for us to organize fashion and design discussions and events.”

The Beverly Hills location, 370 N. Cañon Drive, is the third company-owned Marimekko store to open in the United States this year, following Boston in August and Palo Alto in September. Marimekko also has signed an agreement with the Canadian furniture company EQ3 to open 10 Marimekko shop-within-the-shops by the end of 2014.

“Consumers are seeking products with a strong, authentic heritage,” Ihamuotila said of the brand’s aggressive expansion. “We want to be an extremely authentic brand that encourages people to be who they are and show their identity.”
