Nicholas Lawrence design showroom opens in Brentwood

Home offices might be a trend, but interior designers Nicholas Hertneck and Lawrence Lazzaro grew tired of running a business from their personal residence. In early June, the decorating duo moved their business, a division of the Beverly Hills firm Piper Hertneck Design, to the second floor of a Brentwood Village storefront.

On the lower floor, they created Nicholas Lawrence, a retail space with herringbone hickory floors and Venetian and plastered walls. The Vermont soapstone sales counter, Lazzaro said, “was designed to look like it was salvaged from an Art Deco movie theater.”

The space serves as the exclusive Los Angeles showroom for Zia Priven lighting and the Regal Furniture Collection, both of which manufacture locally, and for Nicholas Lawrence’s first line, the De Camp Collection, inspired by Art Deco and Spanish Revival architecture. Among the pieces: The Three Tier Table in ribbon-striped mahogany veneer with a walnut stain and cerise finish ($2,125) and Duke of Windsor Armchair ($4,920).

The shop also stocks Brighton Collection lighting, jeweled boxes by Edgar Berebi and porcelain by Franz as well as an array of art and vintage and antique finds.

“The street level is a gallery,” Lazzaro said. “Several times a year, it will undergo a themed transformation ranging in style from the current Gatsby era to bohemian beach, from Anna Karenina to Midcentury Modern.”
