West Elm to host Etsy pop-up shop Saturday
West Elm, which has showcased Etsy sellers in its catalog for years, on Saturday will host a pop-up Etsy shop at its Beverly Boulevard store featuring the work of L.A. artisans.
Stylist Emily Henderson curated the event, which also will feature a DJ, food from Heirloom LA and a Smilebooth from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
“Even though I shop at big-box stores, I don’t want the stuff that everyone else has,” Henderson said. “That is the benefit of buying handmade things.”
As demand for handmade items has surged, retailers have been looking for ways to highlight local artists in their stores. For West Elm, Henderson waded through thousands of sellers in an attempt to create a balanced mix. “I didn’t want 25 graphic designers,” she said.
She eventually chose 25 artists, and West Elm came back with some favorites. They ultimately chose 12 artists spanning home goods, jewelry and stationery in hopes of creating a mix that felt like a general store.
The event will include wood cutting boards by Dominik Kowalik, letterpress cards by Rosanna Kvernmo from Iron Curtain Press, metal jewelry from Upper Metal Class, handmade products from Fabled Soap Co., soy candles by Pommes Frites, screen-printed gifts from Sass&Peril;, woodcut prints by Krank Press, ceramic pots from TW Pottery, Jikits mobiles by Kim Baise, jewelry from Sol del Sur, 1.61 bags and Kelly Kyoko bracelets.
West Elm is at 8366 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles.
