The 66th annual Cannes Film Festival opened Tuesday in France -- or should we call it the Dior film festival? Dior’s Raf Simons designed the ravishing haute couture creations worn by four ladies at the opening ceremony -- Nicole Kidman, Carey Mulligan, Zhang Ziyi and Julianne Moore.

Mulligan wore a blush matte satin gown, Kidman a two-layer embroidered pale pink silk organza bustier dress, Moore a purple and black lame bustier dress and Ziyi a killer fuchsia embroidered tulle cutoff ballgown and black cigarette pants. Jeweler Chopard, a sponsor of the festival for 16 years running, doled out the baubles worn by many of the stars.

Versus Versace Launch: Donatella Versace unveiled the new Versus Versace collection designed by super-hot designer-of-the-moment J.W. Anderson at a star-studded bash at the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City on Wednesday night. Toms X Ben: Toms Shoes has announced a partnership with Ben Affleck’s Eastern Congo Initiative; a limited-edition collection of shoes (two styles for men and one for women) featuring designs inspired by Congolese textiles. For each pair of $59 to $79 shoes sold, $5 will go to the ECI’s programs for youth and families in the region and a child in need will receive a new pair of shoes. That’s what we call a “twofer.” [Toms Shoes]

The Cat Had Hats: Did you know that Dr. Seuss was a hat-collector and man-cave dweller? Those are just two of the things you’ll discover at a traveling exhibit of Seussian headgear called “Hats Off to Dr. Seuss!” that comes to Laguna Beach. [All the Rage]
