Elizabeth Taylor’s first wedding dress to be sold at auction
Elizabeth Taylor’s first wedding dress -- the one she wore as an 18-year-old when she married Conrad Hilton Jr. in 1950 -- is slated to be sold at auction at Christie’s in London on June 26. The gown, a gift to Taylor from MGM and designed by costume designer Helen Rose, is made of 25 yards of satin with a 15-foot train. It’s corseted and embellished with bugle beads and seed pearls. It is expected to fetch about $75,000. [Telegraph]
Christie’s also plans to auction off much of fashion critic Suzy Menkes’ wardrobe this summer in an online sale July 11-22. The sale includes designer items going back to the 1960s, because, Menkes says, she has never disposed of anything since she headed off to college. [Harper’s Bazaar]

Kate Upton appears in the latest Victoria’s Secret catalog. That’s a little surprising since the Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl was famously snubbed by Sophia Neophitou, the casting director for the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, who said in a New York Times interview in 2012 that she would never cast Upton in the show because “She’s like a footballer’s wife, with the too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.” [The Cut]

Denise Garrido of Alberta was crowned Miss Universe Canada on Saturday. But hours later, the crown was revoked when contest organizers said there had been a vote miscount. The real winner was Riza Santos of Calgary ... and Garrido was third runner-up. [The Star]
