Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen introduce Elizabeth and James handbags

Share

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have introduced their first Elizabeth and James handbags for fall 2013, and styles are available online for pre-sale now.

The bags, $395 to $625, have a clean, streamlined aesthetic and relaxed silhouettes that reflect the minimalist design sensibility of the Olsens, who won the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2012 for their higher-end line the Row.

I particularly like the sling ($445), a low-profile twist on the backpack that’s becoming a trend, and the $625 leopard printed hair cow tote. (Anything in pony or cow hair is going to be big for fall.)

The hardware on the bags, which are being produced in-house rather than through a licensee, is subtle, with yellow, rose gold and gunmetal finishes. And the colors are understated too, particularly the “carmine” red, “cinder” lambskin and “cognac” suede.

The handbags join the growing Elizabeth and James universe, which already includes ready-to-wear, jewelry, shoes and eyewear.

The collection is available for pre-order now at NeimanMarcus.com, and arrives in Neiman Marcus, Saks and Nordstrom stores mid-July.
