Nicki Minaj looks fierce on the cover of the April edition of Elle, which did a “makeunder” that toned down her usual colorful look. Inside, she talks about childhood bullies, women in business and her plans for world domination. [Elle]

But, just like the rest of us, she can get stuck in traffic. Which apparently is what happened to her on Wednesday, when she showed up 13 minutes late to a live taping of “American Idol,” after reportedly being jammed up on L.A.’s notorious 405 Freeway. The show started without her. [Daily News]

The Hollywood Reporter issued its list of the 25 most powerful stylists in Hollywood, and maybe the most surprising news is that Rachel Zoe only came in at No. 3. She is arguably the best known of the bunch, but she also had two Oscar-night snafus: Client Anne Hathaway swapped her chosen Valentino at the last minute for a Prada gown with darts that accented two spots on her chest and got the Twitterverse in an uproar, and Jennifer Lawrence tripped on the hem of her Dior haute couture ballgown. (Nonetheless, Zoe said, “every girl on the planet dreams of wearing a dress like that once in her lifetime.”)

First place was taken by Leslie Fremar, whose clients include Julianne Moore, Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Connelly. Coming in second was Petra Flannery, whose client roster boasts Zoe Saldana, Claire Danes, Emma Stone, Mila Kunis, Megan Fox and Faith Hill. [Hollywood Reporter]

The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced a slew of nominees for this year’s awards, which are to be presented June 3. Vera Wang is to receive this year’s Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, and Oscar de la Renta the Founder’s Award. Riccardo Tisci is to receive the International Award. [CFDA]

Meanwhile, the Style Coalition on Wednesday handed out the fourth Fashion 2.0 awards, which recognize achievements in the virtual world as voted on by the public. Marc Jacobs was named best Facebook and top innovator, and Saks took awards for best blog by a fashion brand and best website. @DKNY was honored with having the best Twitter for the fourth straight year. The Visionary Award was presented to Rent the Runway founders Jennifer Hyman and Jenny Fleiss. [WWD]
