Paris Fashion Week fall 2013: Miu Miu review

Share

PARIS -- Miuccia Prada closed out Paris Fashion Week on Wednesday afternoon, showing her fall 2013 Miu Miu collection to a starry front row that included January Jones and Zoe Saldana, as well as designers Olivier Theyskens and Marc Jacobs. And it was Jacobs, still in the silk pajamas he wore to take his bow at the Louis Vuitton show, who caused the biggest paparazzi scrum. His bodyguards literally stopped traffic in the streets in the 16th Arrondissement so that Jacobs could get to his car.

PHOTOS: Paris Fashion Week fall 2013 trend: Statement coatsThe look: Quirky and colorful with lots of dots and stripes. A little cartoonish. This was primarily an outerwear story, with coats covered in polka dots or jazzed up with contrasting color sailor collars. Ripstop nylon jackets and coats zipped up the front and slid off the shoulders, bringing a touch of romance to a utilitarian look. Slim black sweater dresses with polka dot or striped silk underskirts were fun to look at, as were wild-hued Victorian booties, but probably hard to wear in the real world.

The verdict: A little thin on ideas, and I couldn’t get the image of Olive Oyl out of my head.
