Traditional holiday wear with a twist

We all know one -- the preppy collegiate or professorial type who lives and breathes the classics. This holiday season, the challenge is to bring them outside their tweedy, elbow-patched comfort zone and introduce them to a new look. We’ll call it traditional with a twist, a touch of Wes Anderson’s familiar but different aesthetic. For men, we’d suggest a Mr. Turk silk dinner jacket in a brightly colored holiday plaid, instead of old faithful velvet or tweed. Or you could gift him with an Alexander McQueen feather or Hook + Albert rosette to pin to his lapel as a conversation starter. Have a serious curmudgeon on your hands? Albertus Swanepoel’s “Vienna Shooter” hat should bring holiday cheer to any fuddy-duddy on your list. Does Mummy live in her driving loafers? The newest rendition from Tod’s has an oil-slick metallic sheen that’s quite festive. For a fresh take on the classic ski sweater, Rag & Bone’s chunky chevron weave is injected with copper accents. Another sure bet? Kate Spade’s Knock On Wood car clutch, an homage to the preppiest of family wagons, the Jeep Wagoneer.
