Build your own bikini swimsuit online
Anymatic, the Santa Monica company behind a line of locally made custom-printed yoga mats (Yogamatic.com) and board shorts (Shortomatic.com), has finally gone to pieces — as in two-piece bathing suits.
Just in time for swimsuit season, the online-only company has launched Kinimatic.com, a website that will allow customers to upload the photographs or artwork of their choosing (or select from a gallery of limited-edition artwork) and have it printed on two styles of bikini top (bandeau or triangle, $49.50 each), two styles of bikini bottom (single-tie and hipster, $49.50 each, with the option of adding a tweet’s worth of text — 140 characters — inside the back panel of the bottoms), micro short ($75) and a sarong-like beach coverup ($49).
The bikini fabric, an 80/20 blend of nylon and spandex, is printed using a dye sublimation process, then cut and sewn by hand in Los Angeles, with a turnaround time of 14 to 21 days from order to delivery.
Co-founded in 2007 by William Cawley, his wife Jennifer Cawley and yoga aficionado Maryl Georgi, Anymatic launched its line of custom-printed yoga mats in July 2008, followed by custom-printed board shorts in April 2010. Last year, skate brand Vans tapped the company to power its custom Era board short program, which launched in July 2011.
The next category ripe for customization? That’d be cycling jerseys and rash guards (at shirtomatic.com), which the company hopes to roll out in the future.
