Bold and bright colors at play

Designers used bold, bright strokes on the runways this season with clean, geometric lines, stripes, grids, color-blocking and cutouts, creating visions that were at times modern and at times nostalgic.

At Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs staged a moving spectacle of models dressed in checkerboard grids inspired by the 1960s and the house’s famed Damier pattern, while Narciso Rodriguez’s collection of sexy slip dresses with slashes of bold color created a mood more romantic than regimented.

The bold and bright trend is also making for some knockout accessories, including Fendi’s new color-blocked 2Jours tote with transparent plastic side panels, and Rupert Sanderson’s coral patent leather sandals with Lucite block heels.

Nicholas Kirkwood’s architectural black-and-white mules with stacked metal teardrop heels hearken back to the graphic spirit of 1960s art movements, Pop and Op, while Mary Katrantzou’s contrasting geometric patterned “Skyrograph” tee from her hotly anticipated collaboration with Los Angeles denim brand Current/Elliott is a piece of wearable art that is vintage 2013.
