Shopping: Jet by John Eshaya adds to slim-cut jeans collection

Special to the Los Angeles Times

L.A.-based designer John Eshaya is in a rockin’ mood. The former vice president of women’s wear for Ron Herman launched his swanky-jeans-and-tees collection, Jet by John Eshaya, in 2008 and has added leather and glazed denim (which resembles leather) to his stable of slim-cut jeans for fall.

Popular among trend-loving celebs including Nicole Richie, Heidi Klum and Kim Kardashian, the collection is already one of the sexiest denim lines in the stratosphere, specializing in skinny looks with just the right amount of rips, tears and vintage-inspired distressing.

The new rocker-inspired offerings — black flat latex-coated stretch skinnies and faded-and-ripped black skinnies patched with random-looking black leather squares — were inspired by the edgy T-shirts and knits Eshaya designed for fall. “I needed something cool and chic to work back to,” he noted.

The designer conceptualized the Faded Leather Patch jeans while doing patchwork and repairs on classic blue denim. “I thought, why not add a new twist to the faded black jean, with leather patchwork?” He envisions the curvy denim being worn by “someone with chic style, like a Rihanna.”

The glazed black denim, Eshaya said, “is for a girl who would pair it with a loose T-shirt and ankle boots, like a Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.”

But you don’t have to be a drop-dead gorgeous celebrity to benefit from the new styles’ cool-kid cuts and treatments. The jeans are $194 at johneshaya.com.
