“Gus and Grandpa at Basketball”

Claudia Mills

Gus likes basketball practice. He went to his first practice and made a basket! Gus was nervous about his first game. Besides, he didn’t like big crowds.

At the game, he shook hands with the boy who would be guarding him. Gus tried to do all the things Coach Pete had told him to do. They lost the first game, 12-8, and lost every game so far. Gus was sad because he didn’t shoot a single basket.

Gus wanted Grandpa to come to his last game, as Grandpa always encouraged him. Grandpa agreed. Gus had the ball. Did he make the winning shot? Did his team win the game? Read the book to find out how Grandpa helps Gus discover the secret and joy of success.

“Horrible Harry and the Dungeon”

Suzy Kline

The story was about a boy named Harry and his friend. In their school there was a new Suspension Room teacher. Harry and his friend thought the Suspension Room teacher was mean. You should read this story to find out if the Suspension Room teacher is mean or nice.

I like this story because at first Harry did not want to go to the Dungeon. Then he changes his mind so his other friend won’t get in trouble. I also liked it because it was funny. The author wrote this story about Harry and Class 2B for her little second graders. She wrote it for all schoolkids so they can have fun reading it.
