Escher-GuneWardena recently restored Lautner's flying-saucer-like Chemosphere House for its current owner.A detail of Chemosphere House, which is currently owned by publisher Benedikt Taschen.When Hollywood production designers David Wasco and his wife, Sandy, wanted to remodel a Los Feliz Boulevard apartment, the architects created an almost "non-interior," leaving city views of Griffith park as the only distraction.This Mar Vista home was transformed from an inward-looking, traditional abode into an expression of easy, futuristic living.Quarry tile flooring flows from inside to outside and onto the kitchen island.Implementing the design took some ingenious construction, and a pricetag of less than $500,000.The sliding glass wall disappears and the house seems to float into the hillside.The architects are expanding their sensibility with the green-oriented Dwell Home II in Topanga Canyon.
