Made-to-order skirts you’re unlikely to see elsewhere

Shoes have it. Jeans have it. And now, skirts have it — an Internet shopping site devoted exclusively to a single category of fashion.

With the recent debut of www.skirtspot.com, shoppers can browse through hundreds of variations of classic and fashion-forward skirts, each sewn and delivered within 10 to 12 days of an order. All of the styles are less than $100, with most $45 to $65. (A deep-discount clearance sale is also underway.)

The selection is categorized according to style (A-line, circle, elastic-waist, knee-length, short, etc.), fabric (cotton, denim, corduroy), color, length or season. Petite and missy sizes run from XS to XL, or from about a size 0 to a size 16. The collection’s designer, Joseph Walker, also offers an exclusive collection of his work on the site. Walker also sells a separate (and more expensive) namesake line to hundreds of boutiques.

The L.A.-based company, however, makes only what’s ordered, and only from in-stock fabrics, which means you won’t see 300 copies of your skirt on some future sample-sale table — or on another woman.

“When you get one of our skirts, you probably won’t see it again — anywhere,” founder Craig Cochrane said. “We sell all over the world.”
