Canaveral National Seashore( JACOB LANGSTON, ORLANDO SENTINEL / July 4, 2006 )
Bernard Petersen from Samsula uses his binoculars to try to get a closer view of the launch of space shuttle Discovery from Canaveral National Seashore's north end in New Smyrna Beach. A park ranger estimated the launch pad to be about 18 miles from the launch pad giving the people on the beach a great view of the launch. Petersen and his American flag were at the same location on Saturday and Sunday waiting for the launch before it was canceled. After Saturday and Sunday's launches were canceled, the weather was near perfect for the space shuttle Discovery launch Tuesday afternoon, July 4, 2006. "Some sight, some sight," said Petersen about the launch. He said he has seen launches in the past, but never this close.
