Statistics: 760-pound total lift (420-pound bench, 340 clean and jerk)

Season highlights: Jansen's total weight lifted tied Columbia's Timmy Jernigan for the state Class 2A title, however, Jansen won the tiebreaker because he weighed 22 pounds less. Jansen, who will attend FAU, was named Seminole Ridge Lifter of the year the past two years. "Sam was the guy everyone looked up to because of his freakish ability," said Seminole Ridge coach Justin Hilliker.

Athlete's comment: "When the team was announced as state champs, we knew all of our hard work paid off."

Eric Strickland

Weight class: 183 pounds

Statistics: 640-pound total lift (335-pound bench, 305 clean and jerk)

Season highlights: Strickland's total weight lifted tied Springstead's Armando Noury for the Class 2A state title, however, Strickland won the tiebreaker because he weighed 1.5 pounds less. Strickland said his best memories of this year were winning a state title in weightlifting and being named all-conference first-team in football. He committed to Defiance College to play football. He lifted a career-best 640 pounds total at state. "Eric to me was our energy guy. He inspired guys with his leadership and his voice," said Seminole Ridge coach Justin Hilliker.

Athlete's comment: "Weightlifting means everything to me. It has helped me in football and it brought a state title to my school. I sacrificed a lot over the years and I don't regret any of it."
