Shiri Spear joined NBC Miami in September 2010. She previously worked at NBC affiliate WWLP-22News in western Massachusetts. She has a M.S. in Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Shiri initially studied Atmospheric Science at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. After marrying her high school sweetheart, a US Marine, she transferred to Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC. There, Shiri switched her major to education. Shiri moved back to her hometown in New Hampshire when her husband Matt was deployed. She taught preschool full time while earning a B.A. in Secondary Mathematics Education from Rivier College. Her student teaching was accomplished in 7th grade math. The classroom required charisma and energy that Shiri brings to her forecast every morning. She enjoys visiting schools and inspiring kids to learn about weather and science. Together Shiri and Matt have two young daughters. The family enjoys visiting the beach and playing with their husky, Lobo. A self-proclaimed chocolate addict, Shiri especially likes to bake with her kids.
