John Kindle has worked for Broward County Transit for 35 years. He says, "I remember the days when we would weld everything together just to get it to go out on the street. We really care about these buses, we want them to work." He says he likes special projects, like working on customizing seats for the bus drivers. He says, "These people (bus drivers) are on their seats all day long, sometimes they get spit on or yelled at. The least I can do is give them a comfortable ride." Broward County Transit workers maintain buses and county vehicles in Pompano Beach on April 26, 2011. Many employees have given up to 30 years of service. But with changes in Florida, workers in the state pension plan will have to contribute part of their salary for the first time.
