Hurricane Kate now holds the record for striking the U.S. coast later than any other hurricane during storm season, the National Hurricane Center announced this week. Kate hit Florida's Panhandle on Nov. 21, 1985 as a Category 2.
At least we can be thankful it didn't strike this year.
The hurricane center has been reanalyzing historic hurricane data. The previous record holder was actually a tropical storm that struck southwest Florida in December 1925.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
