Barbershop Ristorante, Lucques Oktoberfest, Animal dinners, Beekman cheese

Chef Walter el Nagar, formerly of Piccolo Venice, Il Grano and La Botte, has relaunched his new-wave Italian pop-up Barbershop Ristorante in Venice. After stints at the former A.O.C. on 3rd Street and Le Petite Creperie in Mar Vista, Barbershop settles in to Local 1205 through the end of November. 7 to 11 p.m. Monday and Tuesday only by reservation. Lucques celebrates Oktoberfest on Sunday with a fall menu of warm potato salad with whole grain mustard, cornichons and caraway; grilled and pan-roasted house-made sausages with roasted apples and sauerkraut; smoked ham hocks braised in beer and slathered in onions; herbed spaetzle with wild mushrooms, winter squash, bavarian cheese and chestnuts; horseradish and mustard with dark rye bread and pretzels; and pear and walnut crumble tart with raisins, creme fraiche and vanilla ice cream. Craft beers will be featured on three taps, and Caroline Styne will present a list of Austrian and German wines and other beer selections. All guests will receive a welcome glass of house-made mint schnapps from head barman Christiaan Rollich. $55 per person, excluding beverages. Animal will host John Currence of City Grocery in Oxford, Miss., and Carlo Mirarchi of Roberta’s and Blanca in New York for dinners on Oct. 27 and Nov. 3, respectively. Currence will prepare a four-course menu from his new cookbook, “Pickles, Pigs & Whiskey.” It costs $95 and includes a copy of the book. Mirarchi will celebrate the release of the Roberta’s cookbook at a dinner in which he cooks three dishes and Animal cooks three dishes. The cost is $125 including a cookbook. The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills is celebrating American Cheese Month with the makers of Beekman 1802 Blaak. Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge, who star in “The Fabulous Beekman Boys” on the Cooking Channel, will make an in-store appearance for a tasting of their goat/cow cheese, made from their own goat herd.
