Six places to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with craft brews

Share

Don’t settle for insipid, green-dyed lager on the popular drinking holiday; if you’re going to join the crowds of revelers, why not hit a spot that is serving up delicious craft beer? You might even find some “green” beer being poured!

Ladyface Alehouse & Brasserie

The Agoura Hills brewpub will be “celebrating with corned beef Reubens and cabbage slaw all day, live Irish fiddle music from 4 to 7 p.m., and leprechauns behind the bar to magically make your beer green if you wish it so. Erin go Bragh!”

29281 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills, (818) 477-4566.

Factory Gastrobar

The Long Beach gastropub is featuring green beer for St. Pat’s day, but instead of emerald-hued brews, it’s serving sustainable and eco-friendly brews during the 4th Annual Eco-Green Beer Festival. In addition the eight featured brews, the Factory “will be celebrating throughout the weekend with our Irish burger -- we didn’t corn a brisket, we corned the burger! An incredible combination of corned grass-fed ground beef, whiskey-braised onions and smoked cheese -- four days only.”

4020 Atlantic Ave., Long Beach, (562) 595-4020.

38 Degrees Ale House

Starting at 11:30am on St. Pat’s Day, Alhambra pub 38 Degrees will serve food specials (corned beef and cabbage, Reuben sandwiches, shepherd’s pie) and an all-craft line-up of brews, including $5 Irish Car Bombs.

100 W. Main St., Alhambra, (626) 282-2038.

Blue Palms Brewhouse

Hollywood craft beer hotspot Blue Palms is dedicating five taps to Irish brews, including Guinness -- natch -- O’Haras and Smithwicks, and a special tap of Guinness that will be poured through a filter of coffee and cherries for a one-of-a-kind treat. There will, of course, be food specials inspired by the Emerald Isle, including shepherd’s pie, colcannon and stew.

6124 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, (323) 464-BEER.

Chloe’s at GRB

The Golden Road Speakeasy-cum-events space is hosting the Isa Chandra Moskowitz’s & Terry Hope Romero’s Luck o’ the Vegan Supper. The $50 beer dinner on St. Patrick’s Day will see the vegan cookbook authors take over the kitchen “to offer guests a four-course selection of their wildly delicious vegan recipes. Each course will be paired with a unique Golden Road beer selected by Isa, Terry, and Golden Road brewmaster Jesse Houck.” Reservations are highly recommended. Walk-ins welcome if space permits.

5410 W. San Fernando Road, Los Angeles, (213) 542-6039.

City Tavern -- Culver City

I’m not sure of the connection between sour beers and St. Patrick’s holiday, but it’s about all the excuse necessary to tap eight different sour ales from Ohana Brewing, the Bruery, Almanac and others. The event will also feature a limited number of taster flights of coveted Cascade Brewing ales -- but those are sure to go quick.

9739 Culver Blvd., Culver City, (310) 838-9739.
