California Cookbook expands: Our best recipes since 2000 plus hundreds more

How have you been? It’s been a while since we introduced the California Cookbook with more than 600 recipes back in November. During that time, we hope your celebrations were as delicious as could be and we hope The Times recipes database was a part of your feasts.

Like our waistlines, the California Cookbook has grown. In the past few days we’ve increased the number of recipes by hundreds – we’re up to almost 1,700 – and included three new categories: Quick and Easy, Healthy Eating (to help with our waistlines) and Best Recipes.

You’ve probably made a resolution or two centered on how you eat and what you feed your family. Eating healthier is easier when you cook at home, but time is always a factor. So now you have the Quick and Easy category, 135 recipes that can be made in an hour or less.

California Cookbook: More than 1,600 delicious recipes

Marinate pork chops in a quick sauce before you go to bed. The next day, while the pork chops with sweet lemon grass marinade are grilling, steam brown rice and set out lettuce leaves to wrap the sliced pork. Easy peasy.

The quinoa lentil salad with tomatoes is something you’ll make week after week. Shrimp charmoula confit takes only a few minutes on top of the stove after a brief marinade and keeps in the fridge for five days. Find other great low-calorie recipes in the Healthy Eating category.

We love all the recipes we publish. That’s why it’s so hard to single out the top ones each year. But we do. We’ve gathered 137 of those favorites since 2000 in the Best Recipes category. These selections include everything from Sriracha-style hot sauce to lemon upside-down cake.
