Burger King takes another jab at McDonald’s with the Big King

Share

Burger King is attempting to dethrone the McDonald’s Big Mac with its new Big King burger. The previously limited-edition burger is back on the menu Tuesday, and this time it’s staying put.

The Big King comes with two burger patties, a slice of American cheese, a middle bun, lettuce, white onions, pickles and sweet thousand island-style dressing on a sesame seed bun. Sound and look a little familiar?

Burger King originally launched the Big King in 1997, looking an awful lot like its competitor, the Big Mac, which was released in 1967.

This isn’t the first time Burger King has blatantly challenged McDonald’s. The fast food chain launched its own version of the McRib, called the BBQ Rib, and it compares its new Satisfries to McDonald’s fries in ads.

“What makes Big King different than any other burger on the market is the unique fire grilling,” Eric Hirschhorn, Burger King chief marketing officer, said in a statement.

The Big King is priced at $3.69. The average price of a Big Mac is $4.56.
