Tacos out of a VW bus, and shoe shines at Ceremony, opening soon in Studio City

Angelenos are used to ordering tacos from trucks. But a 1969 VW Kombi Bus? That’s something new.

Ceremony, a new restaurant and bar scheduled to open in Studio City by late March, will sell Baja-style tacos and Cuban sandwiches out of a restored VW bus. According to a recent release for the restaurant, chef and owner Frank Leon (La Loggia, The Village) was inspired by the movie “Chef.”

In addition to the tacos and Cuban sandwiches, Leon will be serving his take on classic Mexican dishes at Ceremony, including a shrimp tostada; chicken enchiladas with Panela cheese; bistec con huevos rancheros with a tomato jalapeno sauce; salmon pochado with habanero sauce; chile relleno en nogada in a walnut cream sauce and more.

The bar will serve cocktails by Matty Taylor, head mixologist at The Village. There will also be an extensive collection of wines, and a limited selection of beers.

The 2,200-square-foot restaurant features graffiti-style art and Dia de Los Muertos murals, as well as a retractable wall that opens on to Ventura Boulevard. And if for some reason you need to have your shoes shined before a cocktail, the restaurant will offer a complimentary shoe shine service available to everyone outside the entrance.

Ceremony will be open daily from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. with happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. Beginning in the summer, the restaurant will open for brunch on the weekends with mezcal lollipops, frescas and more.
