For those seriously into French bubbly, Wally’s 23rd annual Grande Marque Champagne tasting is coming up Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Held at the swank Le Merigot Beach Hotel in Santa Monica, the extravagant tasting includes over 50 Champagnes from such famous houses as Dom Pérignon, Krug, Salon, Cristal and more. This is the chance to play sommelier and pick your favorites without having to invest in an entire bottle.

Along with the Champagnes, 20 restaurants will be plying guests with bites designed around the wines. Café del Rey is putting up a raw bar. Pétrossian caviar will be there too. You might want to make that a first stop.

Other restaurants participating include Drago Centro, Angelini Osteria, Bouchon Beverly Hills, Mélisse, Michael’s, Sam’s by the Beach, Cézanne at Le Merigot — and, of course, the newish Wally’s Vinoteca in Beverly Hills. And that’s just naming half the restaurants involved.

Live music from the David Arana Quartet promises to strike a suitably sophisticated tone for the event. And, as always, there will be a silent auction of interesting wines, tours and tastings, with proceeds going to benefit UCLA’s Jonsson Cancer Foundation and Food on Foot. This year they’re shooting to raise $50,000 for the charities.

Tickets are $175 and can be purchased by calling (310) 475-0606 or visiting wallywine.com.
