Where to drink craft beer and watch the Dodgers on TV

Share

For millions of Angelenos, enjoying a Dodger game with a craft beer isn’t as easy as grabbing a six pack and settling onto the couch. Only about 30% of Dodger fans in the region have access to the Time Warner Cable exclusive SportsNet L.A. channel that broadcasts the games, and if you think finding a buddy with cable is tough, try looking for a bar that can show the games. If you want some craft beer with the boys in blue, you might as well be chasing wild geese or hunting snipe. You may need to take a trip to the neighborhoods near Chavez Ravine, as Echo Park has a handful of craft-friendly bars that show Dodger games.

The Short Stop

One of L.A.’s most iconic Dodger Bars, the Short Stop is just a few hilly blocks from Blue Heaven on Earth, and you can always count on there being some like-minded fans at the bar during the games. The craft selection isn’t particularly deep, but the bar does offer good prices on cans of Golden Road Brewing’s selection and some other local favorites. 1455 Sunset Blvd., (213) 482-4942.

The Lost Knight

This new pub on Sunset Boulevard offers tasty British-style classics alongside a well-curated tap list featuring lots of local beer and English beer styles. There’s plenty of seating and a few different screens so you won’t miss the next Adrian Gonzalez bomb or Kershaw strikeout. 1538 Sunset Blvd., (213) 278-0408.

Mohawk Bend

The vaudeville theater turned hipster paradise has a longer list of craft brews on tap than pretty much any other Dodger bar in town, and some of the most friendly prices for a generous 20-ounce pint of brewed-in-California beer. The weekend brunch menu is a great accompaniment to those early first-pitch times on Sundays, too. 2141 Sunset Blvd., (213) 483-2337.

Verdugo Bar

North of Echo Park in the quiet Glassell Park neighborhood is this craft dive bar that does beer right, and they not only offer Dodger games along with 22 taps, but also bottles to-go. They also have a full bar if you’re in the mood for a cocktail to go with your baseball. 3408 Verdugo Road, (323) 257-3408.

Sunset Beer Co.

This candy shop for beer geeks not only has a stellar selection of bottled brews and a dozen craft drafts, they’ve also installed a retracting projector screen to exhibit select games. Call ahead to see whether they’re showing the Dodger game. Or, if you’re lucky enough to have a buddy with Time Warner Cable, you can grab a six pack of something special for a bribe. 1498 Sunset Blvd., (213) 481-2337.
