Events: Magic of the Yucatan, pre-Forum specials at Post & Beam, PigOut 3.0

Chichen Itza Restaurant and Mercado La Paloma have partnered to create the Magic of the Yucatan throughout the month of August. The event is a celebration of Yucatecan culture and will feature an ongoing art exhibit that showcases the art of Yucatecan and Southern Californian artists. Besides the art, a series of culinary demonstrations will take place throughout the event and will highlight the cuisine of the Yucatan. The Escuela de Danza Folkorica Xanat, a Yucatecan folk dance troupe, will perform each Sunday at noon for guests to enjoy. The celebration begins Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. at Chichen Itza Restaurant. 100 Eats’ PigOut is back for the third time on Aug. 24, from 3 to 7 p.m. PigOut 3.0 will include a pig butchery demonstration, a pig farmer Q&A and a knife skills demonstration. The event has been selected to receive one of 25 pigs from the Templeton Rye Heritage Pork Project. These pigs have been fed with a special diet, including spent rye whiskey mash. PigOut will also be giving away wrapped, packed, cut and cleaned prime pig cuts in a live auction. As of now, 12 different restaurants will be in attendance offering porky tastings.
