Chef Ray Garcia of Fig Restaurant in Santa Monica was just crowned the “King of Porc” after his win at the national Grand Cochon competition. To honor his win (and to boost his bragging rights), Fig is partnering with local farms to create the Swine & Dine dinner series. The series is three nights only, and features a four-course heritage pig menu that boasts a “nose-to-tail dining experience.” The dinners are July 17, Aug. 14 and Sept. 4 for $69 per person. Each evening is held in collaboration with a different farm, including Cook’s Ranch, Linda Vista Ranch and Devil’s Gulch. Reserve a spot by calling (310) 319-3111. Café del Rey and Truffle & Wine Co. are collaborating July 17 to celebrate the Australian black truffle. They are offering an $85 five-course prix-fixe menu that includes a tasting of Summerland wines. The funky funghi-infused menu includes pork rolled in truffle with tri-colored cauliflower, Serrano ham, and truffle rabbit jus and tapioca “risotto” with roasted figs and thyme tuile with truffle anglaise. Each course uses truffles in a different way, from foams to braises. The event is from 7 to 9 p.m. in Café del Rey’s Regatta Room, with a cocktail reception beginning at 6:15 p.m. Reservations are required and can be made by calling (310) 823-6395.
