Freds at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills to open Thursday

Share

Barneys New York in Beverly Hills will open an outlet of Freds, its signature restaurant, in the former fifth-floor Barney Greengrass space Thursday. The Los Angeles version (there are sister restaurants in New York and Chicago), will offer lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.

Executive chef Mark Strausman, who helms the kitchen at all Freds locations, will be serving his Madison Avenue salad topped with Italian tuna, a Beverly Hills Club sandwich with shrimp, crab, avocado and bacon; a raw, vegan cashew cheese dip with fennel, celery and carrots; and a farmers market flatbread topped with mushrooms, zucchini, leeks, spring onions, green garlic and local goat cheese.

And if you’re mourning the loss of your bagel-brunch-fueled shopping sprees that came courtesy of Barney Greengrass, the restaurant will offer New York deli-style bagels, smoked fish and cream cheese during weekend brunch.

The full bar and new lounge will feature signature cocktails including the Beverly Hills Sunset ($13), made with Sailor Jerry spiced rum, Myers dark rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, lemon sour and grenadine. There will also be cold-pressed juices, beer and wine.

The space, designed by residential architects and designers Steven Harris and Lucien Rees Roberts, will feature custom ceiling sculptures, a sleek greige onyx bar with a faceted mirror wall and marble tables. An expanded terrace offers views of the Hollywood Hills.

And it wouldn’t be a proper Beverly Hills department store restaurant without a staff outfitted in exclusive Band of Outsiders uniforms by Scott Sternberg and shoes designed by Common Projects.

Freds will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Wednesday and Fridays; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
