[UPDATED] French Garden and Jerry’s Deli close; Carson House opens; DBGB to Vegas

This week, a downtown favorite shut its doors, a famous deli decided to close up shop and move on, and an L.A. chef brought his love of frozen treats to Sin City. Here’s a look at the latest restaurant news out of Los Angeles and beyond.

French Garden, the 150-seat bistro that served traditional French cuisine near the downtown Arts District will close today. Owner Benoit Lesure opened the restaurant in 1998. Señor Fish owner Enrique Ramirez will take over the space, Downtown News reported. 1936 E. 7th St., Los Angeles, thefrenchgardenrestaurant.com.

Jerry’s Famous Deli closed its West Hollywood location Sunday. Plans are already in the works to reopen in a new space sometime in 2014 as a market/restaurant, Wehoville.com reported. Carson House, a new restaurant by partners Steve Fowler and Scott Paletz of Platinum Events nightclub company will open in the old Delfini Citta’ space June 4. In Las Vegas, Daniel Boulud will open a DBGB Kitchen & Bar at the Venetian hotel later this year. The new DBGB will represent Boulud’s French bistro cuisine with a mix of burgers, bangers and beer. 3355 S. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, (702) 414-1000, www.dbgb.com.

Also in Las Vegas, Jet Tila (of the Charleston in Santa Monica) opened Kuma Snow Cream today in Chinatown. Tila will serve his take on xue hua bing, or snow ice, an ice cream and shaved ice hybrid in flavors such as green tea, taro, black sesame and honeydew, as well as seasonal flavors. 3735 Spring Mountain Road, Suite 206, (702) 816-5862, www.kumasnowcream.com.

Chef Dean James Max opened James Republic in Long Beach last week. The farm-to-table menu is what Max calls modern, California coastal and features local producers. Cho Oishi, a Japanese shabu shabu restaurant and sushi bar, is open at Hollywood & Highland, 5,600 square feet with a 30-foot sushi bar and Hollywood Boulevard views. Sushi rolls include Sex on the Moon (fried shrimp, eel, avocado, cream cheese, asparagus, smelt roe, tuna and caviar) and the Oishi (fried shrimp, asparagus, tobiko and baked spicy snow crab). Shabu shabu includes Kobe wagyu rib-eye beef, salmon, scallops and vegetables.
