At Grand Central Market: Horse Thief BBQ launches beer and wine bar

Share

Horse Thief BBQ, the downtown purveyor of smoky brisket and pulled pork located on the Hill Street-facing patio of Grand Central Market, has launched a beer and wine bar.

Cofounders Wade McElroy and Russell Malixi on Wednesday opened their walk-up bar with 10 beers on tap (starting at $4) and a selection of wines. The beer list includes two Texas beers on tap, Shiner Bock and Shiner White Wing, as well as craft beers from Saint Archer, Stone, Bear Republic Brewing, Smog City and Wandering Aengus. Wines were chosen to go with smoked meat and outdoor dining.

“When we saw the patio over a year ago, Wade and I instantly envisioned a place where people would gather, eat great BBQ, drink ice-cold beer and enjoy themselves,” Malixi said in a statement. “We are so glad to finally see it all come together with such great support from Grand Central Market and our surrounding community.”

The walk-up bar’s back wall features black and white Granada tiles hand made in Nicaragua and geometric light fixtures from a manufacturer in the Texas Hill Country. The 14-foot bar top is made from ebonized oak.

Horse Thief also announced expanded hours. Beginning Friday, it will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with plans for dinner service this summer.
