4 1/2-pound steak? Finished in less than 3 minutes by this hungry woman

Share

Oh man, can Molly Schuyler eat! You wouldn’t know it by looking at her, she’s thin, but watch this video of her demolishing a 72-ounce steak in less than three minutes. Amazing. [UPDATED: The headline originally said the steak weighed 6 pounds.]

The steak challenge is a standing feature at Sayler’s Old Country Kitchen, a Portland, Ore., institution. Started in 1948, the challenge promises that if you can finish the steak and all of its fixings within an hour, you get the steak free.

According to the scoreboard on the Sayler’s website, only eight women have succeeded. Fewer than half of the more than 1,200 men who have tried it have managed it.

Schuyler breezed through without a care, finishing the steak off in 2 minutes and 44 seconds, pausing only once to cut the steak from the bone with a knife.

The mother of four comes from Montevideo, Minn., and holds several other eating records—a couple of big burgers, pizzas, barbecue, and calzones as well as something called the “Pig Wings”. She works as a bartender and server at an Applebee’s when she’s not eating.

These big steak challenges are kind of an American tradition. In Amarillo, the Big Texan Steak Ranch off of Route 66, built its reputation on one.

The previous record holder for devouring a steak of that size was Peter Czerwinski, a Canadian bodybuilder and competitive eater nicknamed Furious Pete. He took almost 7 minutes – more than twice as long as Schuyler.

Not shown on the video was her finishing the rest of the fixings on her plate. According to the challenge rules, a competitor must also eat two celery sticks, two carrot sticks, two olives, two dill pickles, a regular salad, 10 French fries (or one baked potato), and one slice of bread.

Of course, Schuyler had another 57 minutes to do that. She probably even had time left over for a nap.
