How can anyone forget the chaos and pandemonium that was the threatened Huy Fong Foods Sriracha ban, or “SrirachaGate 2014” as many have dubbed it? There was a hurricane of emotions ravaging hot sauce fans when they thought the condiment might go on hiatus, but the crisis was averted.

In celebration of the red garlic glory, author and chef Randy Clemens will highlight sriracha at Mohawk Bend on July 21. He has planned a four-course vegan meal with a selection of California craft beers to pay homage to plant-based cooking and, of course, sriracha. The meal is $25 per person.

Clemens’ focus is vegan cuisine and he is obsessed with all things sriracha. After a simple drizzle of the fiery sauce on a bowl of fried rice in 1999, he was hooked. Clemens is the author of “The Veggie-Lover’s Sriracha Cookbook,” “The Sriracha Cookbook” and co-author of “The Craft of Stone Brewing Co.”

The sriracha event is a continuation of “Authors Worth Celebrating,” a Mohawk Bend series that features food writers from around the country. The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. After the meal, Clemens will answer questions from guests and host a conversation about food, his books and sriracha.
