Babette’s, the popular East Hampton restaurant, has opened its first West Coast location in Newport Coast. Zach Layton, owner Barbara Layton’s son, is running the Orange County location. The menu includes lacinato kale with toasted barley, Granny Smith apple, cerignola olives, marcona almonds, poached apricot and lemon-herb vinaigrette; vadouvan-scented sweet potato gnudi with Brussels sprouts; sake-soy marinated ribeye with bone marrow puree; and pan-roasted wild steelhead salmon with Manila clams. Dushan Zaric (New York’s Employees Only and Macao Trading Company) created the cocktail menu. Drinks include the Can’t Elope, with pureed cantaloupe, Fords gin, falernum, Aperol, lemon juice and candied duck prosciutto garnish; and the Bella Rosa with muddled strawberry, lemon juice, wildflower-infused vermouth, Campari and ginger beer. Architect Sam Marshall, who designed Gjelina and Laurel Hardware designed the space which includes high ceilings, a hand-carved walnut wood bar and custom furniture. Babette’s is open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday for 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Beginning mid-November, a takeaway window will be open at 6 a.m. with pressed juices, coffee and pastries. 7962 E. The Horn, a restaurant being billed as a wild game steakhouse, is slated to open Wednesday in West Hollywood in the space formerly occupied by Marvin’s Pharmacy. Owners Adam Klesh, formerly at New York’s Industry Bar, and Daniel Cammarata thought of the idea for a restaurant that specializes in wild game nearly nine years ago while working in New York City. Executive chef Aaron Mitrano, who worked with Gordon Ramsay’s culinary team, has created a menu of cured meats, fresh seafood, crispy alligator nuggets, roasted pigs head, pork belly chili, boar chop, a 20-ounce rib-eye, duck confit leg and more. And for the vegetarians, salads and seasonal vegetables. Designer Jeff Trotter worked with the owners to completely redesign the space. The building’s original brick facade has been restored and 30 feet of ship-hull metal was installed as the bar. The Horn will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. A special late-night menu will be available from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Hours for this week are Wednesday and Thursday 5p.m. for dinner, Friday from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. 8933 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, (424) 249-3329, www.thehornweho.com.
