Tony’s Saloon to launch Golden Road Biergarten this Sunday in DTLA

Tony’s Saloon, the moody, old-school bar located in the industrial netherworld of East 7th Street, and operated by nightlife maverick Cedd Moses’ 213 group, is launching a Golden Road Biergarten in its back patio Sunday.

“Cedd came to me and said he thought Tony’s would make a great demographic fit for us,” said Meg Gill, the president and co-founder of Golden Road Brewing. “He said he felt Tony’s back patio could be a satellite extension of our pub at Golden Road. And the vibe is really similar.”

The low-key back patio at Tony’s at 2017 E. 7th Street in downtown L.A. is hemmed in by an attractive wooden fence and usually plays host to spirited games of ping pong. For Sunday’s event, it is being outfitted with a new bar and upgraded outdoor seating. Golden Road beers including Heal the Bay, Point the Way IPA, Cabrillo Kolsch and Wolf Among Weeds will be on tap for $5, and for an extra $5 you can pair your beer with a shot. The first 50 people to buy a beer get to keep the Golden Road glassware.

To round out the celebration, Short Order chef Christian Page will be out back serving up juicy plates of barbecue, also for $5. The festivities will last from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Moving forward, the Golden Road Biergarten at Tony’s Saloon will be open Friday and Saturday nights, as well as Sunday days.

“This will help us establish a good downtown presence,” said Gill, adding that Golden Road’s profile will get another downtown boost during the upcoming NBA season. “J.W. Marriott at L.A. Live just approached us to do something similar with basketball this fall. A pop-up situation. We’ve confirmed 15 games so far, including the Oct. 29 Lakers-Clippers season opener.”
